Hello, I have this nasty issue of the GPS wrongly locating me...therefore I don't use it but googlemaps via android auto. Still, it's frustrating that skoda does not do anything about it, isn't it? Anyway, one possible issue seems to be with the antenna on the roof. Has anyone tried anything there? how can I access it/dismantle it?

I would think its more likely to be the GPS unit rather than the Antenna(as you put it)

The actual antenna is prone to corrosion and loosing signal over time. Mine was changed under warranty.

Without specific RF testing equipment the way I would test is by finding the GPS unit, and getting to the antenna connector check the resistance, the other thing you could do is connect a bit of wire to the GPS unit and see if it is any better

If there is a 'Split-screen' setting on your head unit, switching display to that should show the number of Satellites in view - E.g. a satellite icon and x-x for number in view and signal strength.

If insufficient satellites are being received, plotted position will be fairly random.

I have used any, but there are gps diagnostic apps for iOS, and presumably Android, which gives the number of satellites and strength of the location fix.

Now, AIUI, when connected to CarPlay (and I assume AndroidAuto) the phone gets its gps location fix from the in car antenna and unit. Potentially, one of the diagnostics apps will show the satellites.

Maybe worth a try 🤷‍♂️…

Thanks, what do you mean by "split-screen setting"?

On Amundsen MIB2 units there is a menu setting that allows the display to show positioning data as an overlay on the left-side of the screen - typical data is; Lat/long; altitude; number of satellites, etc.

I believe later units will also display this data.

I'm new to skoda octavia, need to read a bit more. but mine is MIB3

Probably will be similar though - on the bottom 'task bar' of the GPS screen, look for the 'View' menu, this has selectable boxes for 2D, 3D, Auto, Day/Night, split-screen and POIs.
