How do I adjust headlamp washers on a 2012 Superb?

Featured Replies

I have a 2012 Superb Elegance, and I need to adjust/fix the passenger side headlamp washer. They both still work moving out and in again, but for some reason the passenger side has started spraying up in the air instead of at the light. When driving, the spray hits the windscreen. If I am stationary, it looks like an ornamental fountain. So - is there some weird incantation way of making the jet stay out so I can look at and adjust it, or will it pry out, or do I have to disembowel the front of the car?

Well, after some searching I found how these things work - they are basically a spring loaded piston, when water is pumped in the piston extends out and the water sprays the light, when the water stops and pressure drops the spring pulls them back in - so with some careful prising against the spring pressure you can just pull them out. I found that one of the two nozzles has gone, so I get half the light cleaned, and a decorative fountain.

I can see this is going to be a painful fix, because I doubt the nozzle can be replaced (if I can even find one), and to replace the whole assembly is going to require disassembly of a lot of car... and this is likely to be an MOT fail next time around...

Looks like the nozzle is 3T0955103 (left) or 3T0955104 (right), if that helps?

Thanks, yes those are the entire arm assemblies - it's just one of the two ball-shaped adjustable jets that has popped out that I need. I have ordered a used arm from ebay, I'll have a go at popping one out of that and seeing if it will just push in, or maybe I'll have to glue it, but at least it will be a fix without having to dismantle the car.

Thanks again, now that my ebay used unit has arrived I can see what you mean - this whole nozzle end is actually removeable from the front without having to dismantle the car to get the whole piston unit out, that's what those part numbers are. I just assumed those part numbers were the whole piston. I will have a go at swapping this out now.

Happy to report it's fixed, no more fountain. I had planned to prise one of the little nozzle balls out of the used part I bought, but when I saw how the whole front part comes out, I just swapped it. It is secured with a little plastic spring clip that you have to gently prise up to disengage the ratchet, then the unit just pulls out. It's a bit fiddly fighting the spring, I pulled the piston right out and then put my mole grips on it to keep it out.
