Boot Foam Insert

Featured Replies

I recently bought the foam insert for the spare wheel well in the boot. I now need to try and get all the bits that should be in it. Has someone got a photo and/or a list of what goes where please?

Typically, the foam insert itself:

  • Jack

  • Winding Handle for Jack

  • Breaker bar for loosing/tightening wheel nuts

  • Wheel nut cover remover

  • Hold-down strap to keep everything from rattling around in the boot

  • Toeing-eye screw-in hook

  • Spare Wheel (whether it is space-saver or 16" [205/55/R16] full-size)

Kits are available from your local skoda dealer.

Thanks - mine is the big insert for where there is no spare of any kind. Assume there is a compressor and some tools and a can of tyreweld? Would love a photo. Also interested in any of the bits if anyone has replaced with a proper spare.

Heres my foam insert with no spare wheel

Tool for removing wheel nut caps.

Towing Eye

Locking Wheel nut.

Screwdriver is reversable.

Silver tool right angled thing i have never used and am not sure what its for tbf.

Compressor, and bottle of tyre repair liquid. Called Tyre Mobility system , Part no for that is 8E0 012 619A

@paulski

I take it that you've been lucky and never changed your brake light bulbs or front fog light bulbs ? 😁.

I can confirm that it's to undo the 2 torx screws that you need to remove on each tail light to access the rear bulbs. On some models - such as mine - you also need the tool to undo the bulb holder cover. There should also be a silver springy thing with a hook to pull off the rubber covers that cover the two torx screws that hold the tail light in place.

I don't have anything, so looking for wheel wrench, jack, and all above items.

I also keep my locking wheel nut key in there.

Also a reflective jacket and gloves etc...

A full kit is available from Skoda. I have a steel full sized tyre and spare. Marked 50mph though...

Update - it's this type of insert. I have managed to get the wheel wrench and the scissor jack along with the jack handle. I can see where the jack handle sits but unclear on where the jack goes - it's probably obvious and i'm being a bit thick lol

My 2020 had a compressor that blew the fuse every time I tried to use it, along with some out-of-date tyre jizz, a towing eye, locking nut key and the other assorted tools.

I can send you a photo when I get a chance, if you'd like, of how it is now - I carry fresh tyre jizz, a new compressor that actually works, reflective jacket(s), a first aid kit, torch, Gorilla tape, tyre pressure gauge, wipes, kitchen roll, disposable gloves, bin bags, driver seat cover, tiny tool kit, locking nut cover removal tool, spare fuses and some random bits like a spare rear washer nozzle, valve cap, air freshener, dehumidifier bag, zip ties and bungee cords. I also ordered a new warning triangle for the slot. If I'm doing a long journey (generally into another country) I'll take a small thing of oil and coolant too. Lastly, I've also got my OBD11 plugin, for any issues that come up while driving.

Frankly, most of that stuff is to look after the occupants - if anything goes wrong with the car, you can trust I'll be calling the AA and waiting somewhere else. With the current state of driving in the UK, you couldn't pay me to get under the car and start fiddling with things on the side of the road.

Every time I need an item that I don't have, I order it and stick it in there. It's a bit old-man-y for someone my age, but I've been caught out too many times. I've never actually seen one of those inserts with all the kit in it - I think if you didn't opt for a spare wheel, VW decided to just give you nothing.

Cheers i'd love a photo if you could Occy - mainly to see how the jack sits.

@SpideyMack ive got a foam insert thats been cluttering the loft for the past 6 years you could have had free, apart from for the cost of postage 😬

I swapped from an Octy2 and kept the spare wheel and didnt need the insert.

I got it from someone in the same position as you - cluttering the loft and was going to landfill - I paid the postage and she was kind enough to wrap it all and take it to the post office. Maybe someone on here needs one though?

Have been gradually picking up the bits I need. Got the right angle tool, tweezers, wheel wrench, jack, jack handle, tyre repair goo, and towing eye. Have the handle for the screwdriver but not the reversible screwdriver bit lol. And looking for a compressor if anyone has one kicking around?

I wouldn't bother with the VW compressor - I picked one up at Halfords that works fine. Same with the tyre sealant.

In response to your previous comment - I don't have a jack in the car! I think I do have a scissor jack floating around somehwere, but I just use a trolley jack when required. I have no spare wheel, so I don't see the point in carrying a jack. IIRC, some canned water takes its place.
