Mk4.5 vRS Failed Launch - Damaged clutch(?)

Featured Replies

Good morning all,

I tried to use launch control a couple days ago as noted (manual, online and as the sales person explained) - car in sport mode, brake pedal pressed and accelarator pressed. After doing all these, the car felt it was trying to drive forward and I was holding it with the brakes (no launch activated) so I didn’t proceed.

Last night I tried again as when I searched it the day before I figured it was because I had not pressed the accelerator pedal fully the day before, but it was the same thing. Having pressed the accelerator full though it was as if I could actually feel the clutch slipping! - No launch control indication on dash and definitely did not feel like it.

The car drove fine after that for the remaining 500m home. If indeed there was clutch slipping involved is that an indication that I maybe damaged something? Anything or any way I can check by driving the car?

It's a 4.5 Octavia vRS Combi (10/2025) DSG and just ticked over 3800 miles (6150Km) - and that's the only reason I've tried this. Figured I might as well try it now that it's fully broken in and honestly not something I tend to do with my cars.

Thank you all

Hello mate, i've not tried it myself, but usually you need to turn off traction control as well. Then, hard press on brake, slam the accepelrator to the floor quickly and off you go.

I wouldn't have tried it either as I don't usually "treat my cars that way", it was a spur of the moment thing and then the next day was a more of a why did it not work type of trial.

My main concern now is by what I described above, can anyone tell if I damaged anything or by doing so if I might have 'initiated' a future issue with the transmission?

(Yes, I do have this tendency to overthink and worry about minor things)😐
