I have a 2020 manual and I have a slight play with the gear knob at the end (please excuse the euphemism), I am able to twist the knob slightly, its not so loose that it feels like its coming off, but the main stick is not moving at all its just the end, so it’s not the actual gearbox.

 

Is this normal or something that can be tightened, as I can not find a picture of the inside of the Mk4, in the Mk3 it seems to be held in place with a metal clip, so if the Mk4 is made the same way, I’m guessing its not something you can tighten up.

 

Has anyone else has had this issue or got a fix for it.

I had the same problem with a 2022 Golf 8, eventually it will get looser, the plastic will split and the gear knob will start coming off in our hand. VW redesigned it, I had a replacement part fitted and have not had a problem since.
