Glove box lock/latch replacement

Featured Replies

Hi guys - I'd really appreciate some help on this please

Main glovebox - the one on the passenger side. A while back the bit that you press in the open the glovebox 'exploded'. There is an inner part and then the actuator itself which has the button, a spring and when pressed in pushes the sideways spring to open the glovebox. This is the bit which exploded, the spring disappeared and the assembly looks like it is glued to the inner part.

I've bought a replacement assembly to replace it but have no idea how to remove the rest of the existing one or to fit the new one. It doesn't appear to just pull out. I've attached a photo

Any help or guidance very much appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like the small spring in the actuator part has escaped. I think you could replace this with the spring from a pen, it fits in a recess in the bottom of the part if I remember rightly.

The main button and big spring should push into the round hole and latch in. Looks like there might be something stuck in there (the broken off end of the button?) that you'll need to extract first.

No the assembly is damaged and I've bought a full replacement

I just need to know how to to remove the remaining piece and refit the new assembly

There's a screw underneath the button assembly that might be what holds it in. I bet you have to remove the whole glovebox assembly to get at some clips though.

Did you say "I don't belieeeve it!" when the button popped out?

I said something along those lines, though with a lot more expletives!

There isn't a screw and looking at the new assembly there's no screw hole anywhere so i don't think that's it

Looking at the new assembly though there is a moulded part and I'm wondering if that marries up to the inside of the fixture mount. I'm not sure how because it would mean the fixture pushing in then locking to the right, and there's no actual wiggle room

I have an idea though so will have a look tomorrow with a thin screwdriver or blade

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes that helps see it from a different view
