Chime after locking and unlocking car

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Everytime I lock or unlock my car this chime sounds and not sure what it is. Nothing is left on lights etc. I have problems with battery drainage after 3/4 days of no use so thinking it could be something to do with that maybe.

Cant hear chime sound on clip but it may be the siren battery thats failing and car is continuosuly trying to charge it hence drain over 3-4 days. You could pull the fuse for the siren back up battery. From memory think its fuse 35 in side of dash and see if it makes a difference. Might be worth a scan with vcds to see if it pulls up any random faults.

Meant to add it may be a failing ignition switch. Did read that there is a plastic bit/switch that lets the car know if theres a key in ignition. If it sticks the car assumes theres still a key in so doesnt shut down properly and beeps to warn you about locking key in car. Read it on a VW forum so may not be aplicable to mk2 octavia Maybe someone on here could help. They said try a squirt of wd40 into ignition to see if it frees up plastic bit,

Hi. Thanks for the reply I’ve tried the fuse 35 and it’s still happening. Does this video help any better? This is the noise I was on about.

Cheers

Does the cluster go blank when key is removed and car is locked. When I was working on my sons fabia I left key in ignition and battery went flat over two days. As said it may be a faulty ignition switch and car thinks key is still in it so not shutting down.

Yes everything goes off on the cluster. It says check deadlock if that means anything to you ? That noise from the videos happens when the car is locked. I just came out to my car then and the noise was going off. I currently have fuse 35 out aswell.

The sign-off message is probably 'Check Safelock' - which is serves as a reminder to the driver not to lock in any passengers who remain in the vehicle.

Not seen it say safe lock it’s always said deadlock since I’ve had the car.

Mines the same . When I turn off ignition and remove key it says Check Deadlock

Google says this

  • Active Security Feature: It reminds you that the car's deadlocks are engaged when you turn off the ignition and lock the vehicle. [1, 2]

  • Disabled Inside Handles: When deadlocked, the doors cannot be opened from the inside using the interior door handles, which stops thieves from breaking a window and unlocking the car. [1, 2]

  • Safety Warning: It serves as a reminder not to leave pets, children, or passengers locked inside the car, because they will not be able to get out.

Could be a bad door switch or as said ignition switch. If its a door switch are there any door open lights on dash when all doors closed. Check also that puddle lights come on when unlocking car.

Also switch on radio and remove key. The radio should go off. If it doesnt it points to ignition switch.

Stupid question but is ATA Confirm ticked in the Maxidot display?
