rattling brakes

Featured Replies

Hi,

recently bought a superb. old owner had just replaced the brake pads and now they have started to rattle every time I go over a bump in the road. someone at an independent garage explained to me that this was a 'cheap batch' of pads and that they also had the same problem when they put these pads on cars.

anyone else heard of this? is it something that I can fix myself without changing the pads?

Hi Smith101

If it what I am thinging about, it sounds like they have left out the "anty rattle shims" I assume you can buy these and fit them !

These shims fit between the back of the pad, and the piston.

If its not that, one or both pistons are sized, strip down and remove the pads, and make sure the pistons go in and out ok(DON'T LET THE PISTON COME ALL THE WAY OUT) then apply some "copper slip grease" on the back of the pad and along with the shim, it should cure it.

Superbs dont have rattle shims.

However pads are sided and must be fitted left/right to ensure they dont wear oddly. I'd get a genuine set of pads and get them fitted.
