Felicia 99 LXi.... odd metalic 'clink'

Featured Replies

Hi

could anyone point me in the direction of this odd noise? Its hot here so windows open, at speed or over rough ground / speed humps car is fine.

over nothing serious ... maybe crap tarmac i hear a 'clink' rattle from front or rear just not sure, cant duplicate it, have tried! its there but not always. no idea at all. i know if the window was shut i would not hear this however.

can anyone help.?

PS noted last night the headlamps have drooped, they still adjust but not back up high enough now............... so to anyone with a felicia it's time to test those headlamps before you really need them and find you cant see anything and its all wet and cold and miserable. Why does the adjuster fluid lose its 'umph'? dunno but it does and or just vanish .

it might be the suspension bushes getting tired.

spannerman dont take it to a garage to get it fixed..... cant fix headlamp adjusters :(

do it manually. extract the actual adjuster from rear of lamp unit (pig behind air filter, but just possible, twist turn pull) . ignore the tube with fluid..... once you got the actual adjuster (black unit with push rod out), you'll be looking at a brass push rod with a philips screw. You'll need to extend the rod (screwing) it out about 2-3 threads. >Then test you did not over adjust :) simple to fix, but an utter pig when you find you cant see a thing when you need 'em :'(

you'll lose the ability to adjust the headlamps when towing.......... but then who has ever used that?

My drivers side is well duff, the lights are now on highbeam all the time, and I use the internal adjuster to drop them for oncomming traffic. But they are just not going back up far enough. So i know the system is about done. Still as I said, its a ZERO cost fix.

ps my advice!!

wait until the fluid or the adjuster has given up all hope! i'm watching and waiting until them buggers are at the 'cant see past 6' down the road' then i know the system is gone utterly. try to adjust before that and well they might droop again. and/or you just rip the tube out the back and save the wait LOL

i'm going on option 2 this week. 'tube ripping' :) however ..... do please try to get another felicia to park alongside so you know you got the lamp height right! I know 1mm sounds like feck all, but it really can push them way too high. fun for you to peeve the oncomming highbeamers (i wont dip for them either) but then think of those you cant dip for!!!???

so trash the system and get them hands in down there. I promise i will take pics doing this car, and also 'estimate' the exact amount of screws to do it......... errm screw turns that is! 'or thats sounds even worse' LOLOL

advice on lights when rain stops

The metalic clink has become a bit of a rattle, and is the rear for sure. The bushes? is that serious? dont want the back end to go bang and drop down like the favorit did. Not a big deal but damn odd driving a car at that angle :)

The rattle's not the gear change linkage is it? Not at the back but under the floor I know. Mine rattles like I don't know what over rough roads. I've been under and rattled them about and it's definitely that on mine. Someone said it's a simple job to replace the bushes but it seems to still work and doesn't bother me particularly.

a thought i dunno??

was sure my ear had tuned itself it was the rear making the clink and now rattle

100% not front there i am sure so far i think perhaps maybe!

have you checked your exhaust to see if it is secure, or worn to the point of rattling..... I would personally see if a local garage would be so kind to stick it on a ramp and give the car a look over to see if there is anything wrong.... and they might be able to trace the rattle back to source. Also might be worth looking at the exhaust heat shield, may be loose.... have you had a service of late, to which you had your fuel filter changed ???

Anyway, I would recommend you get a mechanic to look at it, and then they may be able to find the problem.... because I am unsure what all feel but I hate ratlles and odd noises when I am driving my car :D

Good luck Mate :D

cheers will do

however it rained yesterday and today (nice sunny back in the mid 20's) no rattle !!!

ruddy thing will be tracked down, although the exhuast was new on leaving old blighty and the cars only done about 600miles in the last 2 years!

local garage ...... mmmmmmm dont own a citroen they dont know what any other mark is (think inbred i know :) Will get it looked at though its annoying me now .

just a thought, anti-roll bar bushes, may have slightly perished and causing a rattle... a long shot, but worth a look :D
