ABS problems

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Could anybody offer me any advice on my ABS problem that I have with my Octavia. My ABS has been kicking in both when pulling away (brakes not on), and when my car is just about to come to a stop whilst braking gently. I am pretty sure it will be one of the sensors but does anybody know how I can find out which one, and also are they easy to replace. Thanks in advance for any help. Al

You need to get a diagnostic check carried out for starters to see if any fault codes have been logged in the ABS control module. A dealer can do this or you can do it yourself if you have access to VAG-COM software and lead. Whereabouts do you live?

quite often the sensors are ok but they just get covered by garbage from off the road which fools the abs unit into thinking that one of the wheels has locked up.

I don't think there would be any fault codes present as the system passes the self test after start up and no warning lights are ever present. It just seems that the system is serviceable except for the fact that it senses a skid when pulling away or coming to a stop slowly.
