USB head unit purchase / fitting

Featured Replies

Firstly - hello I got a Fabia vRS earlier in the year - almost by accident - had planned on an Elegance but was swayed at the last moment...

Anyway - I'm now thinking of getting a new stereo - the main reason being that I'd really like to be able to have a sensible MP3 solution. I have a non iPod mp3 player so I'm looking something that can read/browse by ID3 tags and can support at least 10 to 20GB storage. I've been looking at the Kenwood and JVC ranges of stereos with USB connectivity.

e.g. Kenwood 7534u or one of the JVC units on this page

I have a couple of concerns

1) One of the reasons I got the car was because it was kind've understated - I don't want anything too blingy or that looks out of place - has anyone fitting any of these units and do they look good?

2) I'm no mechanic/electrician - is it really easy to removes the current unit and fit something like this myself.

I gather that I need

- a Skoda (not Autoleads ) fascia - only from dealer?

- a tool to remove the current Symphony unit - can the proper tools only be purchased from a dealer?

- an aerial converter/booster

- probably to swap a couple of wires

Anything else I should consider -eeither for fitting or purchasing? Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Andy

As far as instalation is concerned it looks like you pretty much have it covered. Part numbers for the bit's you'll need are on my website.

I can't vouch for those units but I know some of the Blaupunkt units fit in nicely.

Thanks Stu - I hadn't seen that Blaupunt did USB type units. This one looks interesting - though doesn't seem so widely available.
