Earth

Featured Replies

I've bought myself a JVC AVX2 DVD Head unit. In order to fit it you are "supposed" to connect one of the cables to your hand brake; in order for the screen to only operate when the hand brake is on and not while driving.

Now while this makes sense, I know how to get round this by earthing the cable, but I'm not sure where would be best to earth the cable in the area around the stereo. Any suggestions?

Before anyone starts telling me I'm silly, no this does not mean I'm going to watch films while driving. I'd never do that!!!

Does it require an earth or a supply?

Earth I think, to fool it in to thinking the hand brake is on. Not sure, don't like this electrical rubbish!

I know Bengie has a similar head unit ...

If it's just an earth find a bolt attached to the chassis. Sand the paintwork down & screw it in place, can't help you on the place.

I'm pretty sure it WILL just be an earth, as you can do the same if you want your h/u to stay on with the ignition off. Where is the earth from the wiring loom earthed? You could follow that.

My old car (Saxo) the OEM earth was in the passenger footwell, just behind the carpet.

No need to worry about sanding paint off etc just connect to the earth already supplied to the headunit on the ISO lead.

yeah, just use a scotchlock connecter to splice it to the iso loom!

scotchlock connectors rule :D saves so much hassl, used them in my old micra for piggy backing onto the iso block very neat option.

i would think the ground in the iso block would do the job

Scotchlok's aren't the best thing in the world but they do save time and hassle. One thing to be wary of though, is that they can cut some of the cable conductors.

i second that!!! they are brilliant because they can be disconnected again if you've made a mistake, but as stu says they somtimes cut a few on the conductor strands in the wire so be carefull.

also i would advise you to read through the manual for your screens and find out wether or not it needs a live or an earth! remember that one of the live feeds in the iso loom is permanantly on, and the other only comes on with the ignition.

it'll be an earth, i have the older version of this unit and have earthed the handbrake cable.* nice unit mate, same as mine except it plays divx and has a 3 1/2" screen instead of a 3" screen. need a hand again?
