4x4 system confuses me !

Featured Replies

I don't understand my car as it has happened again...

1) Can someone please give me a final answer on if this is normal or not :-

- Hard on the power in 2nd gear and with steering lock, I watched the revcounter as I got wheelspin and the power was cut , released and cut again as I held my foot down.

I would expect this in a front wheel drive Octavia, but what is the point in having a 4x4 system if it doesn't transfer the power to the back wheels !!!

2) This is the only issue I have with the car after nearly a year of ownership.

It is Jabba'd, has recent new directional Pirellis so grip should not be an issue, but this sort of thing has a happened several times when the car should simply have shuffled the power around for me.

3) Does anyone recommend a dealer (now that Forward Motors have gone) that actually UNDERSTANDS the 4x4 system and is used to how they drive ?

I thought it was the ESP / electronics originally

HELP !!!

Rob

My "understanding" is that if the front wheels are about to slip it throws drive to the back wheels & if the wheels still want to spin it cuts off the drive, Ive only had it in first a couple of times when enthusiastically pulling out of junctions so either somethings addrift with your car or your madder than me to achieve it in second, I'm 228 bhp on Toyos.

That's the logic I was following, Stuart.

It just seems too slow to react at 'lowish' speeds with high throttle input so from what you've said, I'm wondering if my car has a problem.

Any Skoda dealers know their 4x4 's ?!

Well, it's hard to be "final", as it's your experiences against mine, but I'd say NOT.

Haven't had this happen to me once, and I'm no slouch. So I hope someone comes up with a good answer to query number 3...

Might be worth speaking to ColinD... he mentioned something last week about his old 4x4 apparently needing new 4x4 bits (under warranty) maybe he, or Tavia4x4 can point you in the direction or a decent 4x4 dealer.

All suggestions appreciated !

If I think back to when the car was Jabba'd, Mike said he thought my Haldex 4x4 was 'lazy' which would explain why its fine normally but not when there's lots of power / revs / steering.
