Fabia VRS blown engine!!!!

Featured Replies

Well I have never heard of this before, but the AA man believes I have holed a piston

Has anyone else had or heard of this problem before?

Glad the car has loads of warranty left:)

Not good :(

not a very common thing but i have seen these engines drop a valve before because the collets broke

i hope its not modded / remapped , because it could be Skoda UKs get out clause to not fix it under warranty , i think i've only heard of 1 other engine going pop in a VRS . What were your engine fault symptons ?

Well I was heading down south from Newcastle to Ludlow (Wales boarder) on Friday afternoon to compete on the Woodpecker rally. About 40 miles from my destination went to overtake in 4th at about 50mph. As soon as i floored the throttle there was a single loud pop and a loss of power. There was no smoke out the exhaust and only a noticiable whistle from the turbo.

Im heard of intercooler pipes poping off and I was confident that was my problem. So I continued on at a very steady pace for about half a mile until I had to accelerate to climb a hill. As soon as the turbo spun up the engine stoped.

I think the turbo impella has blown and deposited itself into the engine. There was no prior warning. No turbo whistle. Nothing indicated on the dash.

The car is a 54 with just less than 20000 miles and thank f'ck isnt modified:)

I know the garage well so I will let you know the full story as it unfolds. Sadly they dont have a courtesy car availiable so the AA have given me a Megane:thumbdwn:

Strange that, when I put a rod through the block on my Octy I was given a Megane too :D

Seen a fair few VW PDs with failed pistons.

Turbos fairly common also.

i wouldn't mention that you carried on driving after it went pop , might be another get out clause for Skoda , i hope it gets fixed without any problems

Hi ya, strange i should find this thread because my vrs engine decided to die on me last nite. I was returning home from my girlfriends, reached the dual carriage way accelerated up to 60 in 4th, changed to fifth and the car jolted as if i'd taked a wrong gear. So clucth down try again but the same thing happened. I looked at the dash n the battery light was illuminated. i try restarting n she just ticks over but doesn't catch. called AA but he didn't wanna poke around to much as he didn't want to invalidate the warranty. Was towed to the garage (Savilles is my local dealer gr8 guys!!!). They looked at it today but its showing no fault codes n its not a fuel pump issue either. So im left in limbo for the time being. little worried tho. Shes my pride and joy. Anybody know what happens if she can't be fixed? its an 05 vrs with 16500 on the clock totally standard.

Anybody know what happens if she can't be fixed?

That's not a very positive attitude :P If it's under warranty, the car will be repaired or you should get a very good deal on a new car :D

Well I only drove a very short distance as there was no sign of serious mechanical damage. There was no warning ligts, smoke or mechanical noises. With rallying for years I have lots of experience of engines failing and the noises they make. I was sure this was only an intercooler pipe:confused:

Well the head is coming off today so I will let you know the outcome.

Oh ye, has anyone else had problems with getting a courtesy car from their dealer? Cutting an very long story short, I was originally told to get the AA to supply me a car. Now I have to take it back and get one from Enterprise 20 miles away. At no time has my dealer offered any assistance in changing the cars. I thought Skoda should have been running around after me and not the other way round:mad:

Very dissapointed at the service so far:thumbdwn:

When I had my accident in France which killed my first fabia, Skoda were the only people who were able to help. They had a taxi pick me up from where I was staying and drove me to the europcar rental place where I had a brand new dutch-regged Astra to drive back to the UK with. Once arrived at Dover, there was a RHD Fiat waiting for me to carry on taking me home. Skoda / europecar were nice and waived the cost of an extra day as I had the car for 4/5 days instead of 3 which is what you normally get I think. Very impressed and it did save me all sorts of trouble
