Fuel Pump & Sender Unit??

Featured Replies

Hello All

Ok my fuel pump and or sender unit or both are dead. I was just about to get to work and the car quite litterally chocked on the remaining fuel in the system and died.

I checked the fuses and NO.4 FUEL PUMP - 15A fuse had blown. So I changed it to the spare and turn the egnition key, and pop, there goes the new fuse. So I was convinced that the pump has gone nipples up.

I am unsure wether it is the pump / sender unit or the wiring causing the problem. My question(s) is is there a way to test it and how do i test it??

Also if it is the pump, am i correct in saying the pump and sender unit is a 'all in one' package??

From the haynes manual I will be able to do the job myself, if needs be I can call my mate in to save me :D thats what he offered anyhow. He said the pump and sender unit is a single part. He is not a skoda specialist, more of a generalist, so i was hoping a skoda tech could confirm this point to be accurate :D

Any help will be greatfully recieved.

Q

the thing i would suggest doing is unplug the pump/sender unit then put a new fuse in to see if the fuse blows without the pemp plugged in because this will give you a pretty good idea if it's the wiring causing a problem or not.

Exactly what I would have said.

ok all

Looked at wiring diagrams on Haynes manual, and noticed that the Fuel Pump and Lambda Probe and Injector Inlet Temp Sensor was also fed from F4 - 15A. Therefore I disconnected the fuel pump, and fuse went pop, then I disconnected the lambda probe, and fuse was fine, reconnected fuel pump and car works fine, just about to go for a run :D then will confirm here :D

Also am i right in saying the lambda probe effects fuel economy as though my fuel ecomonmy has gone to 37mpg from 30ish mpg it is still worse then my parents at 45mpg and my stepdad and i dive similar, but I would expect 40mpg / 42mpg with my style..... any insight will be great on this subject, and of course greatly appreciated :D

Q

Yep, probably find the heater in the lambda probe has gone to a short circuit. New probe for you then :)
