X Reg Fabia 1.4 Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer

Featured Replies

After a few red faced moments last week with my car refusing point blank to start no matter what I did to it, I ebay'ed myself a VagCom cable, downloaded the freeware 409.1 vagcom software and pulled the fault codes from the ECU...

Control Module Part Number: 047 906 033 C

Component and/or Version: 1,4l SIMOS3PA 00HSSJ4A

Software Coding: 00061

Work Shop Code: WSC 13765

3 Faults Found:

17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer

P1570 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

16825 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs

P0441 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

16500 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs

P0116 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

I'm guessing 17978 was my non-starting reason... the car was turning over, the injectors were obviously firing (as there was an amazing smell of fuel from the exhaust) ... but no start! Got hacked off and presumed I'd flooded the car, went back inside for a cuppa and all was well afterwards, only for it to happen again at work!

Can anyone shed any light on the other two.. as I'm on shareware vagcom, it won't decode the errors.

From the sticky in the forum I've got

16500 P0116 Engine Coolant Temp.Circ Range/Performance

and

16825 P0441 EVAP Emission Contr.Sys.Incorrect Purge Flow

What do these mean in layman terms ?

Other symptoms I've got with the car are relativly high fuel consumption vs what the dash is showing... the dash can be showing 40/gallon average, but by my maths (and wallet) I'm getting about 32-33 average (OUCH!) At one point I pondered whether I was leaking the stuff !

Engine temp seems normal... well, it warms up to the middle of the gague in about 5 minutes, and then never shifts from that spot, whether it's a sunny day, cold day, traffic jam...

On top of that, I've diagnosed my air con problem to be the Evap sensor... now I just have to work out where it is !

Any advice extremely welcome ! (Before Vag-Com it was about to be put up in the local rag! But I think I may just see if I can fix it ;) )

Matthew

Sounds like a faulty temp sensor.

The EVAP incorrect purge flow is quite a common fault, especially if you brim the tank with fuel when filling and/or flick the vent valve in the filler neck. Basically it means the charcoal canister that purifies the fumes from the tank can no longer do its job. It will need a new canister.

The a/c evap temp sensor is wel covered on here.

That was quick ! Cheers

Where would I find this charcoal canister on the car? Somewhere near the filler neck I presume ?

I'll clear the fault codes and give them all a wiggle until I get the error... again ;)

The canister is a large cylindrical object behind the o/s/r arch liner. You need to change the canister and the valve on top of it.
