I fitted the red led lights on the cup holder some time back but while spraying the air vent surrounds silver I had the idea of illuminating the vents :D not every ones cup of tea I guess but it seemed like a good idea and it would make the dash a little more interesting :D

Anyway, they are connected to a dimmer power source so the brightness can be adjusted up and down with the rest of the dash

As far as spraying the vents, I would recommend staying well clear of chrome type sprays as they don't really work well at all.... I used Vauxhall starburst silver with a lacquer finish..... looks like the gear kn*b, doesn't mark as easy as the chrome sprays  (you cannot use lacquer with them). 100% improvement over the stick on kits!! The vent separates from the surround to make it easy to paint without knacking up the rest of the vent :D

I like it!

That's scary, looks like your car is possessed

I love it! Not too sure about the cup holders, but those vents:orb_love_ .

Cheers..... just to say all the vents are illuminated and not just the centre ones  Oh, the lights on the cup holder are quite usful as it makes it easy to place the drink in the holder at night....... otherwise it is easy to miss and spill coffee everywhere  They don't look as bright when sat at the front as well as you canot see the led's directly!

Those vent's remind me of Home Alone's basement scene......

Sorry for my twisted mind.

 Do you have a red light in your mouth too then???

Hate the cup holder, love the vent

Those vents look pretty cool :D

Nice touch

Have to say I wasn't expecting to like any of it but those vents do look very interesting. I agree with leaving the cup holders but 10/10 on the vents.

Very nice, and different too! Not sure about the red vs green going on - would be nicer in all one colour. Anywho, how do you get the vents out and wire it all up? A guide would be very much appreciated as Im loving the idea, even just to see how it looks in my car?

A* anyway for bravery!

I think the red goes well with the dials etc.. all green might b abit much

I wouldn't mind seeing this in the flesh some time... might persuade me to try it as well :)

Next on my list is replacing the interior lights with LEDs

I think it looks like a Cylon.... Or Kitt... :)

That's the idea.... I wanted to carry on the colour from the dials.... red and green and the car is red so it seemed a natural choice :D

The illuminated vents idea sprang from reading the Seat Forum.... someone got on about illuminated vents.... factory fitted I would imagine.... just started me thinking on what it would look like on the vrs :D

That looks really good

Seconded

i wouldn't have it myself, but 10/10 for the execution.

Cheers.... As it only cost a fiver and is easy to return to standard, it was always worth a go :D

The vents can be levered out using a flat bladed screwdriver with a bit of cloth wrapped around the end so it doesn't scratch the dash!

Anyone wanting to spray the vents silver, now’s the time to do it :D Once the vent is out the facia can be removed from the vent, you will spot where the facia clips on to vent. Use the screwdriver again to remove it gently. Watch out when you do remove the facia as the wheel that operates the vertical direction can spring apart if you are not careful. There is a little spring in the wheel that can ping out if you knock it around to much  easy to put back together though if it does happen ;)

The lights are fitted to the underside of the vent. Drill a hole (or use an old soldering iron) to make the correct size hole for the led to clip in to. Best to get the size right so you don’t need to use glue so it can be easily removed if you decide to take it out! (I used the soldering iron, easier to control without knacking the vent).

The positive came from the dimmer power cable that is available on the back of the radio.... if you take a look at VRS Stu's website it has the cabling diagram for the radio, you can use special clips to tap in to the earth and power wires.

The centre vents are easy to reach but the side vents are a little harder. Left vent, remove the glove box and the side panel (like the fuse box cover but on the passengers side). You will see a small whole in the left hand side of the vent fed the lose wire through this and leave the led hanging out from the vent. From there, feed the wire so it runs above where the glove box would be and straight to the centre console.

The same goes for the right hand vent. It proved handy to have an old wire coat hanger cut up and straightened out so you can use it to feed the cable from the right hand vent to the centre console. Saved time having to remove to much of the dash between the steering wheel and the peddles etc.

I find it best to run a wire from the power source and earth cable and then connect each of you LED’s to these new cables. This saves mucking around to much with the original cabling. Again, VRS Stu’s web site explains this excellently.

Once all the cables are in place and you have re-attached the facia to the vent (if you painted it) attach the led's into the small holes created in each vent and ease it back into the dash.....and that's it, not a big job really and it costs £4.99 for the LED’s from Halfords and a couple of quid for the connectors

Just be careful with the wiring and if you are not sure as to how to wire them in, get someone who does!

would have been easier to buy a long straw :D

Seen a copule of photo's from people on here that have done the same thing but with blue led's.

Looks cool. Agree that all green might be a bit Tommyknockers...

Looks hot dude. Nice mod.
