HELP! Coolant leak!

Featured Replies

Hi I have a Silver 1.4 MPi Fabia (2000) and all the coolant drained out on the way to work this morning. Now my friend has filled it back up when you rev the engine it squirts out horizontally towards and over the alternator. Apparently its coming from the water pump, but is this a pump failure or a gasket or something else more terrible?

Please help as i cant really afford to pay a garage to look/fix it and my brother can repair it once its been diagnosed.

Many thanks already to whoever can help a damzle in distress!

Water pumps usually have a little hole in them. If the seals on the pump go then the coolant comes out of this hole. A failing gasket would just leak and the pink coolant staining would be apparent at the pump to engine block joint. From your description I would say that the pump has gone.

So will it need a new pump or can my brother replace the seals? Thanks for your quick response, you're a star :-)

if its leaking from the pump as is being suggested it will need replacing

Yeah water pumps are fairly uncommon but when they go they chuck out.

Bit of a P.I.T.A to do as the water is part of the engine mounting.

I have a similar problem. The watter is coming out from the little hole that I suspect to be a watter pump, I'm not sure because I didn't see a bully on the pump... all Fabia watter pumps have bullys even?. The thing that the watter is coming out is bolted on the engine block whit tree bolts and has two hoes coming in to it, one smaller from the back of the engine block and one bigger from the radiator. So what is it????

I think he means:

Pulley?? (bully)

with three bolts (whit tree bolts)

two hoses (2 hoes)

water (watter)

Unusual to have 2 hoes under the bonnet? i thought they were normally ON the bonnet?
