Fabia Misting up

Featured Replies

Hi, sadly I

Try putting your air con on. With the temperature on pure heat. And the circulation button next to the aircon button too. This de-mists my fabia in seconds.

looking at the 4th picture down i would say that the inner door panel seal is leaking , it looks like the door trim is damp and the sill trim is stained from water

Do you have a brolley in the boot ? They stay wet for ages and leave the boot damp. :) Or whenever you get in the car, your wet feet will in turn wet the mats. Even if they're damp the car will mist up, as mentioned, use the Air con.

As said, check the door membranes. Also try running the system with full heat, full fan and AC turned OFF. You may find it mists up badly for a few minutes and then gradually starts to clear as the heater box dries out. Also make sure you are not on recirculate as that would also cause you to steam up. How is your coolant level? It's possible that the heater matrix has sprung a leak although I doubt it's the case if its purely linked to wet days.

I'd say deffo your door trim, mine looked like that and the main part of the door seal only "puddled" when it was leaking. The doors don't have plastic membranes but steel 'carriers', water tends to run down the inside of these and the cr*ppy seal doesnt' stop it.

Luckily, my door carriers were bolt on so I just did the quick N dirty Mastic fix one afternoon.

Had some torrential rain lately and the door cards are dry.

It's easy to check, just feel the lower part of the door trim, it will feel very wet.

The Fabia does steam up in cold/wet weather quite a bit, especially if you're in the car in a wet coat, but as folks have said, AirCon clears the misting really quick.

Thanks for the replies it

I have a similar problem with misting as I had leaks in the rear door plates and also one in the front foot well caused by leaves gathering.

I was told by my local dealer that the rear seals are not a big issue as they drain out the door and not into the car but I still got it sorted just incase.

Hope you get it sorted!

Did your dealer sort your car out? What did they do to fix it?

Cheers,

As for the rear doors, yes, dealer sorted it for free and said its a common fault with the metal plates that are in the doors not sealing correctly - he did say he put in new parts but I guess it would of been cheaper for him to just re seal it. Either way its sorted now.

The front passenger footwell leak was caused by leaves clogging up an air vent forcing water to build up. When I turned a corner it all gushed out into the front passenger footwell. Heres what I have written on my invoice:

Remove wiper arms

Remove wiper cover

Clean out leaves

Clean rubber grommets

Replace wiper cover

Test for leaks - all ok

Dried carpets over night

Leave windows slightly open to dry out

Again, Derek Slack's done this free of charge for me
