Living up to the name

Featured Replies

Hey all - got back from 6 day trip to France last sat, main reason was to visit the Paris motor show, and it was great. Liked the Joyster a lot - and loved the Octavia Scout, looks very good in the flesh:thumbup:

Friend I traveled with wanted us to go in his Lexus IS200, a very nice car, but I knew the Superb would offer better comfort on the long runs and got him to agree with the "better economy" = "cheaper overall trip" bit;)

And I was not proved wrong on either point - the Superb really lived up to it's name over there. Most of the driving was done at an indicated 155kph (90mph on the Garmin Sat-nav we borrowed) with the odd trip to slightly higher speeds:O and it was just so easy and relaxed to cover huge distance - park, get out and walk away feeling so fresh after it

Wondered (like most of us do I guess) what she would do when given the chance - so opened her up 1 time, hit 120mph (again sat-nav readings) much quicker than I expected - there after tailed off alot, but did get to 128mph still slowly accelerating, but with traffic ahead of us I had to back off :thumbdwn: do think would easy have passed 130mph if had a clearer road tho  :D

We covered 2676km (1672mls - with car locked up for almost 2 days in Paris) - used 170lts (37.4gls) and if my maths are correct that works out at 44.7mpg  From trips we have done around Ireland in the Lexus my guess is that she would have done no better than 32mpg at most

The only thing I would change on the Superb would be the brakes - have never felt that they were up to stopping the weight of the Superb with confidence :thumbdwn: (and also getting to France -am NEVER again getting on a ferry:finger: :o )

Overall, dont think could have picked a better car to have made a trip like this in - as said - ths Superb really did live up to it's name :D:thumbup:

I see you have been down to Millau to, such a nice bridge. Was there a couple of weeks ago myself in the octavia. What was wrong with the ferry?

Most of my family have worked at sea - but somehow I was passed over when the sea-legs were being handed out :finger::rofl: . Some people say it is all in the mind, but when I was a child of 2 and got sea-sick, and every rough trip there after, it was not in my mind - IT IS REAL  lol - the crossing home was just to rough for me,, and at 12.5 hrs for the crossing, no way I am ever going to chance it again ;)

As for Milau - WOW, calling it a bridge is not doing it justice IMO - we went south just to see it, and it was well worth it

Have to agree with the comfort of the Suberb, was lucky to get a passenger seat in one for the trip to CZ ( thanks Pete) hit 130mph on the autobarhns with more to go.

What engine in that Superb? Mine is a 130TDi - know she had a bit more to give, but wonder just what they will top out at

Mine has a dragon digital on it, but it'll sail past 130 no problem, with still 1k rpm left to go, sadly it registers some kind of fault after that and the ESP light comes on so I dont push any further!

(all on German autobahns or racetracks obvioulsy)

Sorry was a 2.5tdi

130mph.......was there something wrong with it. ;)

Yeah, the non owner at the wheel :D

I have to agree 100% with you Bryan about driving a superb, as Mike (mdk1) said he shared the driving with me(cheers Mike) on the Czeck trip. As regards the speed the best i have done is 143/5mph on the clock no mods what so ever. 2.5 v6 TDI Elegance.

Had my Superb 2.8 petrol indicating 153mph a couple of times but because 5th gear(auto gearbox) is more of a cruising gear I achieved this speed in 4th

I share your concerns over the brakes on the superb which is why I had mine uprated to EBC grooved discs and green-stuff pads....much much better!

What sort of money we talking to get a set-up like that then

I had mine done at AMD Technik in Bicester and it cost just over £500
