All you aftermark HID kit people

Recived my kit tonight and just need a few questions answerd before starting to fit them.

1. The metal clips and the plastic back on the rear of the headlights, do they fit with these in place of will I need to somehow get some new protection for this section?

2. Where has everyone placed the two ballasts?

3. Best placement of the High/Low controller?

Any pics would be greaty too!

Did mine a couple of weekends ago on my Octy.

1) I ended up drilling holes through the plastic light covers for the wires

2) The one ballast should fit under the passenger side headlight (mine did anyway) there should be a OEM hole you can use. The drivers side was a barsteward, ended up removing the windscreen washer bottle and putting it behind it in between the inner arch and the outer wing, required a hole to be drilled too. However, I have a TDi which has an intercooler (by the looks of it anyway) on the drivers side by the headlight so I couldn't put it under the headlight.

3) By the battery there are a couple of OEM bolts, I removed one and put the High/low controller on it.

I'll see if I can sort out pictures for you.

Oh and I recommend you remove the battery and battery holder to make it easier to gain access.

Finally, it took me a few hours, but it is worth it now!

Thanks for the reply.

With my kit the actual HID bulb seems too long for the plastic light cover, wondering if yours was the same?

I can dremel the hole into it, would it not be good idea then to somehow have some kind of plastic protection to cover the hole?

Again many thanks!

With the headlights on the Octy there has to be a hole in the light covers (at least on the standard fit lights) to feed the wires through. I ran the car for a few days without the light backing on but decided that it would be better to put them back on, even with the holes in them. I wanted to put a rubber grommet in place but tbh it seems ok with out it as most of the cover is still there, including the rubber seal.

My bulbs just fit in.

Guys - can I ask what you think of the kits performance; especially on full beam?

Cheers,

Lee

Better than standard, although perhaps not quite as bright as I expected if I'm totally honest. Then again, I would definately retro fit them again on another car or order them from standard on a new one.

High beam seems a little too high, but then again I think my headlights need adjustment anyway, even with the standard bulbs.

I've not had time to install mine yet, hopefully will before the nights draw in.

For the hole in the headlight, silicon sealant is the default recommendation I've heard, and sounds pretty good and logical idea to me

Is it a Bi-Xenon system you've installed then? The usual kits are just for dipped beams? Leaving the high beam standard?

I'm going to put in Philips Vision Plus high beams bulbs at the same time as fitting the HID. Oh and Blue Vision side and Silverstar indicator bulbs for good measure :)

Good idea.

Yeah, I thought the same - effective and easily available. In fact most people even have some knocking about, left over in the garage/shed/cupboard after doing a bathroom/shower/kitchen! :D

I used silicon sealent on my golf where the wires went through... according to the instructions my kit is sposed to have a grommet... but there isn't one... so just used the old sealent works a treat not a bit of mist.

I to have added philips vision plus for high beam

I have to fully agree with your statement. The full beam is too high and my lights are levelled perfectly. Overall I'd say the results are comparable with my 50% brighter RING bulbs that were in there previously but with a whiter light output.

IMO a standard Xenon setup from the factory is far better.

I have a Bi-Xenon kit installed, going to go with LED front sidelights next and probably LED side repeaters afterwards. My Bi-Xenon is the one with Xenon on both low and high beam.

Drove to work this morning in heavy mist and it was a definate improvement over standard.

Sounds decent - which kit did you got for?
