Fabia SDi Injectors etc.

Featured Replies

My 2000 model SDi is slow. I mean glaciers overtake me:mad:. It has a full service history up to preaent 100K. It has had a new cambelt but little else. It sounds rattly and over-advanced next to similar aged SDis. Its fuel consumption is poor eg 49mpg on 20 mile 2x daily steadt run.

Places I intend to look at are:

1. Injectors. Apparently they lose their spring tension and fire early > rattly. Anybody know if they can be bought relatively cheaply without getting rubbish?

2. Engine coolant temp sender. Apparently the early black bodied type give false readings but how the heck do you get them out - the are so underneath things!

3. Air mass meter. Mine is one of the early ones that HAVE such in the cast alloy air box at the top/back. Again how on earth do I get it out??

Any other ideas?

Thanx Folks!

In the end I paid a local company Injection developments of Bridge near Canterbury to investigate it. They looked first at the solenoid on the pump which replicates vacuum advance. This fails and gives those symptons. Eventually they found that all it was was an engine management FUSE!!!. Although it cost £100 to find the fault and 5p to rectify it I am very happy with their work. the Fabia is back to quiet smooth and economical running. It sometimes overtakes glaciers too!! :)

I have a SDI and its reallly slow, thats just what they are like, really heavy and underpowered, mpg sounds good tho

If the engine management computer cannot get hold of the pump because this fuse has blown it will really show you what slow is!!

What sort of mpg does your car give you now (according to computer)

Hi,

Sorry not done a tank yet - regrettably my Fabi does not have a plus pack - so no trip computer! Our present guess (1/2 tank) is around 60mpg - was 50 to 54mpg before fix.

Ah, didnt know they were a option, thought it was standard!
