Have a 2litre w reg octavia petrol. Had problem it felt like the engine was jumping like a kangaroo, garage found contaminated fuel filter. Had fuel tank drained and cleaned also had injectors sonically cleaned and new filter but the symptoms still persist especially between 2000 and 3000 rpm in all gears.

Out of interest how much was the sonic cleaning of the injectors.

I don't drive a petrol Octy, but I think there is something about a throttle body or butterfly valve sticking. A quick search on here might help, otherwise I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon.
