Engine sounds loose/clunking

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a Fabia 1.4 classic.

It was fine, but I think since my daughter has driven the car, and she is learning, the engine mountings are now loose/worn. There is no definite noise but the car is now more difficult to drive smoothly. Main dealer in Macclesfield said there is no problem, but since owning Minis in the Eighties, these seems similar symptoms. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or have a solution.

Thanks,

Steve

it may be that the throttle body needs cleaning, the car kind of kicks back when pulling away and makes it feel generally like a broken mounting.

What kinda mileage has it got?

I'm not an expert but if you say the engine mounts are loose/worn, how about replacing them?

Thanks for your advice, but it's only done 32000 miles.

get all the mounings changed asap... it will mess things more serious up if one of them breaks!

Sounds like the voice of experience ;)

If the mounting breaks, nothing is holding the engine within a certain area of the engine bay that is designed to be in, putting strain elsewhere. As those are not designed to cope with this strain, things might break. I bet those things are more expensive than a few rubber bits :)

As for 'only done 32k' - that is not like it has hardly run in, and as it is rubber it isn't just the mileage, it is also the age of the rubber, it may have cracked a bit, this happens.

It could be something else, but I'd certainly get it checked out regardless and get the problem resolved sooner rather than later :)

lol... yeah... gearbox... driveshafts... mounting frame... :o Skoda still claim my car was a one off though, and they'd never seen that happen before!

Thank you all for your advice. I was not convinced by the local dealer. I think I will bite the bullet and replace the top mounting, at a cost of £90 for the part. Ouch!

I also think that I face the same problems. Mine is a 1.4 too. It's only 55.000km but 5 years old. The sound I hear from the cabin is something like "glo-glo-glo" whenever the car travels bumps in the road which swings the car lateraly. The same sound I hear sometimes when I release the gas pedal or the clutch too soon, or even when I stop the engine (so nothing from the suspension). It could be from the exhaust, but that was checked and it's fine.
