upgrade headlights

Featured Replies

Is there any upgrade that is tried and tested on the new octavia?

what would you recomend?

I do 50K plus per year and a lot of that is in the dark!! country roads and motorways

Looking at ebay with cheap hid Xenon kits? are they any good.

what is the right light temp rating to go for(for seeing with rather than good looks).

Do you have standard bulbs?

If so try power bulbs, philips or osram silverstars.

Standard bulbs with up to 50% more light output.

Also you might like osram super all season, 30% more light but yellowish, so it doesn't reflect off the fog etc.

Most ebay kits are pants. Try looking for something in this country with a lifetime warranty. Just do a search for HID and loads appear. I bought some from chromeline design for my bmw 8000K ones and they look and the visability is superb.

If you are looking for the xenon look i would entertain the "xenon look bulbs" they arent worth it!

Look to be spending at least

I fitted xenon (HID) conversions on my Octy2 main beams a few months ago.

My car has factory fitted xenon’s on dip but living in the ‘sticks’, most of the roads that I use are twisty, hilly and unlit, so I need to use the main beams quite a lot.

The difference in light output between the standard halogens and the xenon’s is frankly, astounding. Visibility is greatly improved which enables obstacles on the road ahead to be seen at a much farther distance than with the original halogen bulbs.

I used 6000K units, which appear more white than blue.

Must say I'm a bit disappointed with the xenons on my Octy 2 - made a late change to the spec as a result of comments here, but they don't seem all that bright - was perhaps expecting something more dramatic, though they do the job OK. I actually feel low beam on our Smart lights the road more effectively.

But perhaps it's because there's such a sharp cut-off with the xenons, so you're more conscious of the darkness beyond. Anyone else feel the xenons could be better?

Mind you, they're adjusted correctly and used appropriately, not like many 4x4s, who seem to keep their xenons on full beam all day long....
