"Chipped" Test drive cars

Featured Replies

has anyone had a test drive in a fabia Vrs from a dealer to find it a damn site quicker than the one you bought... my bro had a test drive at a dealer in a sticker'd up Vrs and was well impressed with the performance so went out and bought one from a different dealer who did him a better deal to find it slower than the curtasy car he had test drove in the first place...

Sounds like cheeky tactics if true.

I think its more probable that it felt brutal as you were new to it with low expectations...

If the difference is very significant then it's likely to be mapped - there isn't that much variation between the models to the best of my knowledge (6th gear is geared longer in the 53 series but lower gears are the same).

Had same experience with a SEAT dealer - of course they used to be able to offer a map as an extra (some did). Mind you mileage and how the cars been broken in can have alot to do with it !

not really i have a revo'd octy Vrs and have had fabia Vrs's as curtasy cars and have to admit this thing was rapid

Wasn't there a stickered up one ooop Norf somewhere which had hybrid turbo, FMIC, LPG, etc, etc at one of the dealers?

Chris

If its that "rapid" its been fiddled with !

My dealer's one seemed awesome compared to mine when it was new (drove it after purchase to check steering geometry) - I've since been back and even when mne's standard they're just the same - the first 20k really does make a big difference to performance.

When TVR launched the 4.2 Cebera, all the magazines couldn

as someone else said.... the first 10k really loosens up the engine... a brand new one will never feel as fast as a demonstrator...... mine feels the best it ever has now... maybe it's 'just' run in now it's done 58k ;)

My local Skoda dealer had a black Fabia vRS demonstrator which had a switchable digital box fitted. I took this car for a test drive straight after a Leon 130 so performance should be similar as the kerb weight was very close.

Anyway the dealer "accidentally" left the switch in the on position and didn't mention that the car had been modified, and I couldn't understand why it went a lot better than the Leon.

I found out that it was modified by word of mouth about a week later and told them I was not very happy and requested another test drive with the box turned off. If a dealers car has been "chipped" customers should be made aware of this.

After this misuse of trust we bought a brand new Fabia vRS from another dealer.

The vRS Fabia I test drove, feels significantly slower to my current vRS? :D

as said a diesel gets quite a bit faster once run in but if a dealer was running a mod'd car and selling standard cars off its back without saying anything then thats super naughty i think :nono:

The vRS Fabia I test drove, feels significantly slower to my current vRS? :D

  really snoopie? I wonder why.......
