No Internet Connection - GRRRR!

Featured Replies

Help! My computer at home has a problem with the internet connection. I am still on 56k dial-up until SKY gets off its backside and sorts out their new free broadband offer thats meant to be rolling out.

All I keep getting when trying to connect is - Error 692 - Possible hardware failure or other connecting device. Its starting to irritate me as I have been unable to check my emails, etc.

I have bought a new data/fax model from maplin and installed this in place of the existing one - still the error message.

I've checed the device manager, quieried the modem, re-installed the driver, everything reads fine until you try to connect and then, hey presto, possible hardware failure or other connecting device.

Has anyone got any ideas????:(

can u do modem diagnostics? - that should prove the PC is able to talk to the modem, and thus you have the correct drivers installed. You say you queried the modem - I assume that means the diags.

How far does the connection get? does it dial a number?
