Changing oil?

Featured Replies

As I mentioned yesterday my (or my wifes as it is now) 1.6 Octy has just informed me it is due an engine oil replacement service. Now the car is out of warranty etc, so i do not particulary want to pay Skoda dealer rates etc, so am going to take it to a local independent.

My question is this should I put some 'flushing' oil in a run it for a while before getting the oil and filter changed?

If you have been using a 'reputable' brand of oil, I wouldn't bother.

The current oil was the stuff put in when the car was serviced by the Skoda dealer I bought it from. But as that was part of the sale etc I don't have an invoice or anything with details of oil or any other parts used.

William - flushing oil is rarely necessary with modern oils. In any case you're only meant to use it for a very short (i.e. minutes) interval before draining and replacing with the real stuff. In short, I wouldn't bother.
