Tamiya Models

Featured Replies

Been given a couple of Tamiya models today.

Ferrari 641/2 (F190) and Williams FW14B Renault both 1/12 scale.

Williams seems all complete as nothing is opened, but Ferrari has a couple of parts in the engine bay box opened.

Is there a way to tell if everything is there.

Not sure what to do with them yet, sell them on ebay and buy something for little one with the money or just make them up for him.

I presume these are not RC and that they are plastic models? If its plastic kit (similar to airfix) then the instructions to build up the model should tell you what parts you need for that step - so you will just need to tick off on the sheet if the part is present.

I dont think Tamiya (distributed by Hobby Company) sell individual parts for these however it may be worth while trying them just incase you dont have the parts in the box.

HTH

PS, if the Williams is remote controlled then PM me with a price you are willing to let it go for as I may buy it off you. :D

If you got the original "distructions" for a Tamiya 1/12th scale, there's normally a complete parts list (or diagram) for the kit in them. If you didn't then you need the distructions before you get anything else.

You may also have problems with "bags of bits" that need opening before you can determine exactly what's in them, but Tamiya virtually always include everything you need, and frequently a few spare nuts, bolts, set screws et al as well.

You can get spare bits for Tamiya models. I have done so in the past. Once bought a plastic model that had a whole load of parts missing (all the transparent plastics, windscreen, lights etc) and just phoned Tamiya up (there was a UK phone number on the instructions) and quoted the model code number, told the lady on the phone what was missing and replacements arrived free of charge.

As a matter of interest (for now anyway), have you ever tried that since the distribution went to "The Hobby Company"?

I mentioned that further up :P

No Mike, you mentioned purchasing additional parts, not requesting replacements for missing ones. :P

But it does sort of confirm my (unprintable) view of the guy who owns TWC.

Trypo - should have been THC.

:D lol. Yes, if we are on about the same problems then I agree 100%

On another note, Im glad that Tamiya (et THC) didnt bail Airfix out when they went bust, or it would of been a great loss.

Incase anyones wondering who Airfix went to, Hornby bought it out - the hobby railway manufacturer that also dabbles with Scalextric

You heard the story about the heated outdoor swimming pool?

I'm mates with some model shop proprietors, who're mates with the sales reps (who're more or less self-employed rather than working for manufacturers or distributors). Apparently the Tamiya price rise just after TMC got the dist'n contract was at the behest of the MD who said "I've got an outdoor swimming pool that needs heating all year round, so deal with the price rise!"
