Main Beam Problem

Featured Replies

Hey all

Ive discovered a problem on my Fabia today , Its been such a poor day I had the lights on , and by mistake i pushed the indicator stalk forward as if to put main beam on and.....nothing! All the other functions work fine (headlights , sidelights , fogs , indicators) plus if I pull the stalk towards me , as if to flash my lights , main beam does work then!! Any ideas? I dont know how long it's been like that , as I very rarely use the car in the dark , just going to work on a winter morning.

maybe the switch has broken!

does the blue full beam warning light on the dash come on when you try to switch them on??

Not when I push the stalk away from me it doesn't , but when i pull it towards me (as if to flash the lights) then the blue lamp on dash does illuminate , and the main beam works! It could be the switch I suppose , as you say , luckily I never go anywhere in the dark , and its MOT isnt till June!

Fuse gone I'd say

I reckon it's more likely to be the switch if the main beam works pulling the switch towards you :D

I've just realised after reading this that I've got a spare stalk for the Fabia, after the one in my old Fabia was replaced with a Cruise Control one :)

Make me an offer :)

Make me an offer :)

Slice of birthday cake?

Chris

I'll take the cake, but I think the stalk might have to be hacked about with to fit the Mondy!

:D

Steve

I have a spare one lying around which came from furby mk1. :) I'll let Steve have first honours on getting rid though. ;)

Aww, cheers Jase! :grouphug: ;)

Thought there might be a few of us with std ones spare!

Steve

Well, getting my CC done by big K, he kept my car's original stalks. But I had the ones from furby Mk1, which obviously haven't seen action since Jan 3rd 2004. :D

He must have liked yours more, as he gave me my original one back! For it to sit in a box since 20th Feb 2005 :D

Daft question, but are your dipped beam on when you are pressing the stalk forward, as the headlights won't come on untill you switch the other lighting dial to dipped, with the exception of the flash.

Otherwise i'd agree it is the stalk.

Yeah the lights were on at the time as it was a dark pouring wet day , and i knocked the indicator stalk forward by mistake , i thought I would have blinded someone with my high beam-untill I realised it wasnt working! All other functions of the stalk work , and all other lights work too (side , dipped , fogs front and rear) coz I checked after I got home!

I may take up the offer of a 2nd hand inicator stalk from you Wardy , I will check with the garage to see if they come to same conclusion as you all have here , and let you know!

Cheers all!

No problem mate - if you tried to send me a PM, I've cleared some out now :D

Went to garage today and saw the workshop foreman , he confirmed that it could only be the switch. However , as a new one is only going to cost me £40 inc the VAT , I may as well just go down that route rather than getting a 2nd hand one , at least then if it fails soon after its fitted I have some sort of warranty on the part (i think!) Cheers to all who offered their help to me , much appreciated none the less!

£40 seems pretty steep for just a stalk, but fair enough

Glad you're getting it sorted...
