Single Mass Flywheel on Fabia vRS, Opinions Please

Featured Replies

I am looking into getting an uprated clutch for my Fabia vRS and have been quoted a goot price for a setup including a single mass flywheel. I have been considering this as i have bad vibrations at idle/low revs and bad clutch slip.

Has anyone got or had experience of single mass flywheels on diesels as AMD do not recommend it, they say it causes a lot of noise in the car

Any opinions gratefullt received.

Also, whats a good price for a clutch and/or flywheel?

Alex

Personally I think what you have been told about the flywheel is a load of old tosh. We have just had a dual flywheel taken out and a single flywheel put in our 6 year old Octavia Elegance Tdi and there is no difference. Trust me if there was my wife would tell me!!

If the dual flywheel and clutch go your looking at

Only thing the uprated single mass flys do is rattle out of gear, with the clutch let out. It's a little noisy, but I could live with it, given the extra performance, and the weight saving - 5kg over oem DMF I believe.

The DMF is really on there to take the noise and the vibration out of the unit and as Jason said this is really only felt by yourself in neutral/on tickover.

That said, over time the extra vibration caused by fitting a SMF could mean other things go wrong.

Even when in neutral, the rattle can be kept supressed by just holding the clutch pedal down. :) I simply went another way, but looking back the money saved on getting a sachs clutch rather than my kevlar one, would have been very significant indeed.
