Electric window swap out for a manual winder

Featured Replies

Came home from work today to find the wife's Felicia had a plastic bag where the drivers window should be.

The electric window mechanism had failed when the window was down. I took the door apart and managed to get the window up again by connecting a battery to the motor. I think the whole regulator mechanism is shot - including the electrical unit, although the motor is OK. I'm thinking of replacing the electric winder with a manual winder.

Anyone done this?

could you not just simply replace the mechanism in the door with a manual one as the doors will have been manufactured for both? i have a haynes manual which should show how to take off and fit each shouldn't it sorry if this seems patronising as it is not meant that way.

Thats exactly what I would like to attempt! I'm just wondering if anyone else tried it.

It looks like a simple swap over (hopefully)

sorry iam the king of retards!

i have just been looking at the haynes manual and from the pictures and instructions it looks pretty straight forward although it doestn't say how to remove the electric winder motors as when it went to press it wasn't defo what skoda were using but it refers you back to the manual window section hopes this helps and sorry again

Thanks for that. I have a Haynes manual somewhere - just can't find it at the minute. Must try and dig it out tomorrow.

if you can't find it and want instuctions i will post them for ya just ask good luck

i'd like to do the opposite and get the manuals changed over to electric. guessing not so difficult with the parts?

I would like to keep the electric, but I reckon the complete unit would cost more than the car is worth!

A second-hand unit may be an option, but I reckon the manual swap over would be the easiest in the long run.

perhaps you have not seen second hand car prices in france?? the french want so much!!!(robbing b'tards). saw a 96 felicia for sale 'private sale' 3,200€ and thats not expensive trust me.

Hi skoda.fr, i wanted to do the same but i had trouble getting original electric window parts so fitted an aftermarket kit similar to this eBay.co.uk: Electric window conversion kit, 3 switches (item 140052866206 end time 23-Nov-06 22:19:25 GMT)

It was really easy to fit, works and looks ok and the price was reasonable (about

podge3, from memory, it looks like it should be a simple swap to change to a manual mechanism
