Hi people, well i also too the mick out of skoda's but i drove my first earlier and i loved it! was looking for a cheap car and saw parked on the side of the road a gleaming black little thing for sale, walked over and thought bloody hell its only a skoda!. its a 1994 skoda blackline 1.3 gxi? or something. its mot'd till aug 07 taxed till xmas for

That sounds like a cam-chain rattle similar to the one being discussed in another thread.

Still , for £350 sounds like a reasonable buy

Sounds like either a cam-chain or tappets. No idea which from "a rattle", but tappets are higher-pitched than cam-chains.

another vote for tappets from me too! but without hearing it it's hard to diagnose these sort of things.

Oh yeah, tappets definitely should adjust out (after purchase), and a chain (even with automatic tensioner) might. Either way, the car should (not will, no way do I promise that from an interweb conversation) run for months or years like that.

Thanks for that guys, i brought it yesterday, i only wanted something to go to and from work in, as i changed jobs and have no company car now. im just running it around as it is but will keep it clean as its immaculate inside and out. i removed the side door strips as i think it looks alot better without. being 29 with a family and a large morgage my car modding days are over now but i would like a nice set of cheap 15 or 16" alloys and maybe drop it abit. any ideas of what alloys will fit? and is the only way to lower it, is to cut the springs(which i dont want to do!)or have some overweight friends in the back!
