'teaching' someone to drive laws?

Featured Replies

picture this:

somebody (a) that has been driving less than the required 3 (or is it 5?) years to teach sits in the front seat next to the driver who happens to be a learner. in the back seat of the car is somebody (B) who has driven long enough to take a learner out i.e. can legally take a learner out in a car.

is this legal or must the person (B) sit in the front since technically they are the only one who can 'teach'? can person (B) technically be strapped to the roof of the car for it still to be legal ()

hope i am making sense!!!

Good question. Logically I'd say they have to be in the front as the whole point is that a qualified driver is watching the road and their actions for the sake of safety.

But why wouldnt you want to sit in the front?

was just an arguement i was having with somebody...

any driving instructors going about?

the qualified driver can sit in any seat in the car

Good question, but I dont think they would be much use in the boot :D

I believe the qualified driver can sit anywhere in the car, the only stipulation is they must be fit to drive, i.e. not pi$$ed out of their head.

The DVLA site just says....

If you want to practise your driving with an accompanying driver, the accompanying driver must be over the age of 21 and must have held (and still hold) a full licence for three years.

So it doesn't sound like it matters where they sit as long as they are in the car....

If you are in the back you have a higher chance of survival when the learner takes on a wall head on. :)

HTH

lmfao! good point!!!

I thought I heard they were supposed to have a clean licence too?

Oohh I'm 21 next year, I can teach people to drive!!! :D:rofl:

License points doesn't matter - It might when it comes to having lost your license though. Suspect then, teaching privleges are withdrawn.

Yes, you have to currently hold a valid UK driving licence :D

Chris

Personally, I think they should wait another three years then, as they obviously seem "unqualified" to be giving advice to new drivers.... :D
