ADSL max - dropped connections

UPDATE:

Not a whisper from either BT or Virgin.net about the promised line test........

BUT.......

.........I haven't had a dropped connection for the past 10 hours!!!!! This compares with anything between 40 and 60 a day which I've complained about for months!

Do you think someone somewhere has had a little tweak? Perhaps it's the power of Briskoda?

I'll post any further developments. Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions.

Virgin could have poked BT and BT could have had a tweak and then see if you complain agian yes.

Althought i would poke virgin and see if they have poked BT etc

I had similar link dropping antics with my BT Broadband system. Engineers checked the junction boxes in the road and my extension leads. Turned-out to be water/dirt in the cable grips in the back of the master socket, which by that time was 20 years old, causing intermittment noise on the line. Cleaning the old socket and treating with silicon water repellant spray wasn't enough - eventually a new standard socket was fitted. Problem gone !

Nick,

BT fixed my line but didn't call back to let me know.

For anyone who's interested, you can get hold of BT in the UK by calling 0800 7319529 and not pressing any options, rather than speaking to someone in India, unless you would prefer that

Tuesday 5.30 pm - Posted too soon! Caused by excitement that I had remained connected for 10 hours without the usual 20-30 dropped connections.

Tuesday 5.31 pm - DOOMED! They've started again and there were 14 of them up until 10.30 pm.

Wed am - They're still there and 11 disconnections this morning. Still no word from Virgin or BT

Wed 2.30 pm Phoned Virgin again at 25 per minute. They've found a fault!

It looks as if I've been wrongly connected at something called BT Radius:eek:

If so, why has it taken since my first complaint in July to discover this?

Fault revealed by Virgin test and reported to BT yesterday. Could be Monday before situation resolved (BT, I was told, don't work weekends).

I'll keep all my loyal supporters and helpers here advised of developments.

Cheers

Hey much as it sucks, don't knock it at least they found something wrong ;)

I've been sat there telling the guys from plusnet what is wrong before, and even had plusnet say we are not on 8Mb and BT say we are on DSL MAX *8Mb).

It's all fun and games I assure you :(

 Well I have a result (of sorts)

Virgin said my line can't cope with ADSL MAx although I'm less than a mile from the exchange.

They again tried to persuade me to get another modem suggesting it was at fault (they supplied it!).

The outcome is that I've been downgraded from around 4mbps to 1.1 after complaining for 5 months about the very frequent dropped connections.

It's working OK now (at the snail pace) and I save
