Just had a major service on my 1.4 16v - 5 years old in March (29k miles).

Dealer has advised a cambelt change.

Is this a "lifed"component - i.e. replace @ 5 years, or should it be done ASAP ?

Whilst they have the engine stripped, should I get them to replace anything else ?

Get it done now. The cambelt change has been reduced to 30k miles by Skoda (presumably due to failures). Recently the dealer at a service advised ours should be done (29k) and while we were thinking about it the cambelt tensioner went and nearly fried the engine.

the 16v engine has two timing belts, two tensioners and an idle roller, get them to change the whole lot, also change the water pump at the same time

Got it booked in a week on Friday - will drive like a granny until then !

at that milage you dont need to panic about it really, but for some reason they specify a 4 year change interval on these belts now!

I knew it was a 4 year changes for cambelts, but is that really true about every 30,000 miles?? On my previous Pug diesel the interval was 5 years or 90,000 miles!

My Ford has a recommended interval of 100k or 10 years! Beat that! :rofl:

I wouldn't leave it that long though if I were you!
