Just to let people know the outcome of this (in case anyone needs to fit a cat) we managed to get hold of a cat from a written-off 2004 1.2 Polo. It is identical except for the mounting brackets for the heat shield but we manged to fettle that. The cat is integral with the exhaust manifold so it is quite trick to DIY unless you are reasonably skilled. Saved a lot of money!
