What mods for a non vRS Octy1?

Featured Replies

The GLXi is ok. Had since easter and apart from a mystery CEL that displayed *after* getting the car serviced, then went out after being reset 3 times, it has been OK.

I'm beginning to think it feels a bit odd.

It has done 104k, it feels skittish, but wallowing, soft but harsh on bumps. Basically it feels like it shouldn't be doing what it is doing.

I know the 8v 2 litre isn't worth doing to much in the way of bolt on tat tuning, but what can be done to make it handle and stop better so I can use what it already has?

Just planning ATM, out of work and waiting for the new job to start, but the MOT is due next month so I have this month to get it sorted.

What size front discs does your car have??

Perhaps you oculd upgrade the discs to some from a vRS??

Surely there will be some spring/damper set ups available too.

312mm brakes from a TT, or vRS etc.

Some Eibachs should also sort you out. They'd be as close to standard springs, but allow for a drop in look, and harder cornering!

After 104k miles the original suspension components are going to be pretty ropey.

Even replacing them with new standard items will show a big improvement though you may get some aftermarket ones for a similar cost

That was what I was thinking.

I guessing though I would need different calipers or at least caliper carriers?

aren't the vRS discs bigger? It had new discs at the front at some point, but when I was getting it serviced at the nationwide/AA garage (stealership closed down) they mentioned sticking rear calipers and corossion to the discs (it had been stood a while).

What sort of options do I have for shocks/springs. It is still on steels and trims so I'm not bothered about lowering it over pimp rims and I quite like being able to clear speedbumps without issues. Shocks pass the bounce test. Uprated stock height would actually be pretty cool for springs, with some adjustability on the shocks. Coilovers would be the nuts, but a bit out of reach and overkill for a commuter hack.
