Is 105dhp engine a detuned 130?

Featured Replies

As title says really. Are these two engines mechanically the same. I'm looking to buy new and just thinking that getting a 1.9 tdi 105 comfort to my spec and then getting it chipped might be my best option, now that the 130 is no longer available.

Ben.

Not quite no, quite different really - different turbos, the PD130 has some sort of swish oil cooling and various bits and bobs.

Needless to say the 105 will remap to around 140 I should think.

The only way to get a useful Superb (4 cyl diesel) now is to buy second hand. All of the new diesels have to meet Euro Cat IV requirements which involves the fitment of a particulate filter. It is this filter and the poor detailing on the B5 application (Audi A4 cabrios suffer from this problem too, as they are B5 based) which causes the trouble.

VAG have shown their old true colours and left customers with unusable vehicles due to this problem (See "Superb 2.0 140 HP Don't buy one") and will probably just prevaricate until the vehicles are out of warranty.

If you want a 130 PS Superb, just buy one second hand - they're cheap enough. Look at the paper label visible on the cambelt cover which shows the engine build code. The one to have is AWX.

rotodiesel.

I am inclined to agree with rotodiesel on this. A nearly new PD130 would be a great buy imho.

My new Golf's got the 105bhp engine in it, and as far as I'm aware the main difference is the Turbo and maybe the size of the injectors.

However it appears, in true 1.9TDI VAG style, that 105 bhp maybe on the low side in terms of output, from the feel of it I'd say there's at least another 10-15bhp there.

Been quite a plesent suprise really, didn't expect it to pull so well especialy in a car of the Golf's weight. Same shove in the back feeling of the standard Fabia VRS.

As Tom suggests I'd imagine with a decent panel filter and a remap, 140/150 bhp would be easily achivable

I believe the 105bhp is essentially a "slightly" tuned up pd100, than a tuned down pd130. :) Different injectors that fail to push beyond 150bhp (ish) and a woosy turbo. However, spend money on race injectors and a hybrid turbo and it will most likely go way further in tuning than a standard pd130. :)

The clutch n flywheel is smaller on the 105... so youll hit the clutch limit before the engine output limit when chipping...

my dad has the 105... only 5 speed and quite high gearing too (80 is almost 3krpm)

Get a 2.5TDI:P
