Anyone with VAGCOM in Coventry/Warwick area?

Featured Replies

As title really, just had a quick look in the Vag-Com owners post but doesn't appear to be anyone local to me...

When I started the car this morning it ran really rough from the off.

Sat stationary in the car park at my flat, the car violently shaking and the engine obviously struggling to stay running.

Initial thought was blockage in the fuel filter/pipes so gave it a bit of throttle which made the car 'cough' a lot and then settle back to it's violent shaking and struggling to run.

I turned off the engine, waited two minutes and then started it and it spluttered back into life.

Seemed ok-ish after that....the idle was a bit lumpy, kept revving itself a fair bit.

Performance seemed ok...currently running on Tesco 99 ron.

Other thoughts were that it maybe coil pack/MAF related?

Car was only recently serviced, all of 3 weeks ago.

Has been running really well and performance seemed better than ever last week. Though it has has a lumpy idle for some time now.

Disconnect each coilpack in turn you should be able to establish if one is faulty. They aren't expensive and it is worth carrying one as a spare. BTW, you shouldn't drive the car any distance if the engine is missing since you may damage the cat permanently. If you have breakdown cover with the AA or RAC, I believe that their vans carry spare coilpacks and can fix the fault at the roadside.

Hmm might have to try that.

Though I had coil packs fail nearly 3 years ago, but they never induced a violent shaking of the car... It just went into limp mode then and so there was a total loss of power.

When I revved the engine this morning as it was spluttering it revved quite quickly as though there was no loss in power, it's just that it mis-fired quite a bit...

Does it sound like fuel starvation?

Will have to see if it does it when I leave work this evening....

I rang Skoda who said they'll run diagnostics on it, but I have no other transport to get back after dropping it off and they can't get me a courtesy car until 5th of Jan  :(

That would be me then......still a novice, so might be best if you find out what you want to check etc first. Can do autoscan + check/clear fault codes and the like, done a bit of logging, but not much else yet.
