Hi Chris

What does the Talex do for warning? Is it an audio only or does the unit gie any visible indication?

Chris

It'll give you a verbal indication and flash the speed limit. It will then give you a 500-Zero mtrs countdown (every 100mtrs).

Can give both versions of the Talex a big thumbs up from me, never let me down and I could not be without it now.

I just bought a Lite from Aldi - £60. Got to see about getting it properly wired now.

What I don't like is that in my choice of location - right of the plastic doobrie in the centre of the dash (climate sensor?) - it reflects in the windscreen. I am tempted to buy some matt black humbrol to paint the dang thing but don't know if this will damage the unit. Or I might yank off the magnetic mount and remount it with blu-tack somewhere else - closer to the screen if poss...

'pends on if the extras are worth 25 of your English notes.

Not for me...

I got a lite and 3 years for £120.

Not sure as to which version you've decided on but the TalexGPS site (

I got a Talex Lite for Chrimbo (Aldi Special) and am quite pleased with it. Havnt give it a test with fixed scameras yet (none up my way!) but it picks up the possible mobile sites and traffic light cameras fine.

"The Road angel flashes the diplay red and beeps when an alert is sounded. What, apart from the voice notification does the Talex do? (Worried that with loud music on, I may not hear the alert)."

It will give the verbal notifiaction of the type of scamera and flash with the speed limit on the units display. I dont think it gives a count down to the site.

"With the Talex, is it possible to have the unit diplaying vehicle speed?"

Yes, it displays your current speed and at the touch of a button it will display the Time, date and amount of satallites in view.

"How long does the unit take to find its satellites on startup?"

Ive found it to be alot quicker than my PDA Satnav and it gets satallites in about 30 seconds.

"Are they OK in the windscreen heat?"

No idea! :P

Been thinking of getting a Talex Lite for a while, when was the Aldi special offer? How much? or is it gonna be like there usual offers of getting a few in and selling out on the first day of the offer. Might take a trip down there after work.

PEMBO, I believe that Talex's count down to the speed camera from 500 metres / yards? but only if your going above the speed limit, else it only gives the verbal warning on approach.

I was gonna install mine under the heater controls, or in the pocket below the radio. What would anyone guesses on reception be like.

Needs to be able to see the Sky.

I bought mine on the morning of the offer - last Thursday maybe...? There were *loads*.

Well, thats that plan ruined then :) Don't really like things on the dash, but it'll be better than a speeding ticket...

Think i'll go have a look anyway

Mine's mounted on the dash just behind the vents for clearing the screen (which are crap by the way.... ) - works very well and the manufacturers have been very good on contact with email queries about the database I've had.

My only gripes (with the lite) are:

1. speed warning on red light cameras, complete with "reduce speed" - really annoying as I'm usually braking anyway unless it's green and they can't get you for speeding anyway, at least around here! - must remember to ask them why that is there!!!!

2. far too many "possible mobile sites" and no way of turning the feature off for specific sites (eg around town where I've never seen them anyway) - obviously local scamera partnership like it that way :P .

3. no indication of gps co-ords (available on the full version though :( )

Other than that its ace  and the flashing warning is easily visible even in daylight with the sound muted - catches my eye quite easily.

Ahh, I shall have to try that out

I tried it there but it only gets about 1 or 2 satallites. I am going to put mine on the right hand side of the dash and run the cable up near the fuse box so its all nice and hidden - Ill post some pics when I have done it but I have man cold today! :(

The count down to the speed camera is visible during every warning even if you are not speeding. A zero appears on the left of the display and the segments of it dissapear one by one until you reach the camera.

The Lite is a very good camera locator and I'd rate it above all the other makes I've owned which is pretty much all of them. I was fortunate enough to buy my Talex Lite from Somerfields last year when they were selling them for £29 :)

Received my Talex Lite today. Looks okay, but waiting until tomorrow to try it out.

I couldn't find any reference to being able to use an external aerial with a talex, however on my unit there was a small black cover on the base which I prised off to see whats beneath. Anyway, theres a small (male) brass plug, about 2mm diameter, with a smaller (insulated) hole in the middle (>1mm). Now is this for an external aerial? Does anyone know the stadard sizes for gps aerial plus, theres no threads so its a push on type.

Thanks,

Tim
