Rear brake wear

Featured Replies

I have noticed that my rear brakes have worn siginificantly more than my front - I would have thought the opposite would happen?

Anyone on here noticed the same, is this the norm??:)

Maybe the fronts have already been replaced? I would expect the fronts to wear quicker than the rears....

I bought the car with less than 7000mls on it so wouldnt expect them to have been replaced.

Im a little worried the brake bias - front to rear - is set up wrongly, would this be possible?

Mine wore the back out first, suprised me too, however the brake bias feels good.

Mine wore out on the rears first as well (around 40k miles)

Fronts on their way out at around 51k miles

Brake balance feels ok to me as well

OK - cheers, must just be the setup then.

What pads did you guys go for then?

dont forget the rear pads will have less thickness of material compared to the fronts

if you concerned get the dealer to check whether there is any binding in the rear brakes , sticking pads on the slides , sticking calipers or tight handbrake cables

they are thinner pads on the rear.

Blimey, don't need to go to a "stealer" for this !!!!!

Jack the mother up and spin the wheels. Simple realy !!!!!

Come on lads - get a life.

Arh... we must be moving to the world of "dealer must do everything".

In my case the only time a dealer/garage touches my car is when I am not confident about what I am doing (or I have already mucked up!), or I don't know what the problem is to solve (ie. turbo issue and I have already done everything I can think of), but there again the dealer had no idea either!

I Used To Have A New Mini Cooper And The Rears On That Went First

yep, my rear pads have worn out after 40,000 km but fronts look like new. having trouble replacing them cos can't get pistons to move back in callipers. anyone out there know why?

You need a piston wind back tool.

Rears on 4x4 seem to wear quicker than fronts. Rear pads and discs at 30k and the front now need doing at 38k. Have a look at the inside front pads as they also seem to wear quicker than the outside, although the wear indicator is on the inside, but seems very pessimistic - warning light on with 4mm left on lowest pad!

Yes, my rears wear faster than the fronts.
