Next question.....head unit metal sleeve...

Featured Replies

Ok all you knowledgable chaps (and chappettes :) ) next question regarding replacing the Symphony HU in a Fabia with my Kenwood.

After pulling out the Kenwood from my old car, I forgot to also take out the metal sleeve that goes with it (the one you bend the flaps on that the stereo slides into).

Will the Symphony/ standard sleeve work ok with the Kenwood in the new car or am I best to see if I can get a replacement Kenwood one?

If the latter option is required, any ideas where I could get another 'sleeve' from?

Do I just get in contact with Kenwood UK or a retailer and ask for another 'sleeve'?

I looked in Halfrauds earlier but they don't sell the sleeves on theeir own.

Thanks in advance.

Chris.

the kenwood will only work with a kenwood cage as most manufactourers use different locking mechanisms and the standard stereo doesn't use a cage.

rather than go to halfords try a local audio specialist as they will probably be cheaper. :)

I'd be very suprised if it didn't fit into the symphony cage, however I'd even more suprised if it clipped in... that would not bother me though. If a thief wants your headunit, clipped in or not, he's going to have it...

Chris

the thing is though it may rattle and keep sliding out of place which i imagine would be quite annoying

I sure with minor fiddling with the frame  it would hold it in place, the whole thing falls backwards slightly anyhow iirc.

Try it, if it doesn't work, try and get hold of a Kenwood frame... :)

Chris

The std Symphony doesnt have a cage.

The std Symphony doesnt have a cage.

In which case, disregard my previous posts... :P

hi mate, which halfords did you go to? ponte or wake? i work at wake as the part-time audio fitter. think ive got a spare kenwood cage in my toolbox at work if your still in need of one?

dont go to ponte halfords they know nothing lol.

if all else fails go to ponte or wake (i work wed afternoons and sat) tell em to get out their armour autoleads book and the cages can be ordered in for about 10 quid.

I went into Wake looking for one, and oddly enough saw a black Furby vRS in the staff parking spaces....must've been you!

If this is the case I'll need another Kenwood cage to fit it with. If you do have a spare one I could purchase from you that would be ace. :)

You there this Sat?

yer that was me.

ill have a look tomorrow and see if theres one still in my tool box. if there is you can have it , no charge.

ill let you know tomorrrow when i get back from work. but ill be in on sat and tomorow evening. usually hanging around the ripspeed desk doing sweet FA.
