Hi All! New to the site today. Had a quick browse on a few issues I wanted clearing up and you all sound pretty much 'normal', which is more than I can say for some forums.

I'm not in a Skoda yet, but it's close. I've become obsessive about my next car choice. It's a company car, but having the interest in cars I have, I'm not just going to choose any old thing.

I've tested, for at the very least a day each, the following cars:

Honda Civic Type-S 2.2 CDTI

BMW 118d SE

Seat Leon 2.0 TFSI FR

Skoda Octavia vRS petrol hatch

After boring all my friends at the pub, most of my family and probably you by now, I've come to the decision that my heart says the octy every time. Had it for a day from DM Keith (Wakefield) and still have a smile on my face. What a car.

All that being said, I have 1 important question:

My loaner I took out was extremely impressive. However, given that when in 3rd, some very silly speeds on a B-road are all too easy, I felt the brakes were not quite strong enough for the speed. OK, it was a little wet and the road surface wasn't great, but I just feel that the speed the car achieves is not matched by it's stopping power. They're not spongy, just a little weak.

Is this how most of you feel or was it just a victim of being a ragged demonstrator?

Sorry it's such a long first post!

Rich

Hi Rich

The brakes are a little weird at first. I had the 312mm upgrade on my Fabia so I was pretty used to good brakes. What I find with the Octy is it's very progressive, you take one out and really stamp on them and you'll see what I mean. It just takes getting used too.

Welcome,

I found the brakes to be very good on the MKII. Pehaps they had not been bedded in correctly.

Welcome to the site Rich

We like decent, descriptive posts  - good to hear it's come out top for you, against some pretty decent opposition. What colour do you reckon you'll go for? Any options?

thanks all.....did think maybe I drove something that didn't reflect reality.

Wardy, you ask the question I've not dared to ask myself yet. I've lost enought sleep over which car to get!! Probably the Black Magic Effect colour. My fiance just received her octy estate in that colour and it just looks smart. My loaner was silver, but I don't think I'll go down that road.

Options......18's for sure. Many cars loose considerable refinement when going bigger on the rims, but I drove the vRS with both 17 and 18's. All I got was more latteral grip!

The pack with the rear leccies, dual zone I think. Other than that, I'm not too bothered. Don't need toys when I'm driving....road, seat, ****
