Fuel Economy V6 TDI Vs 1.9 130 BHP

Featured Replies

What is the differenvce in fuel economy between the 1.9 130PD TDI and the V6 TDI? Currently i'm getting about 52 MPG with my 1.9 130 BHP TDI without trying to drive with economy in mind on my 65 mile trip to work. How much would this change if i bought a V6 TDI as my next car?

Any ideas, thoughts, opinions?

I have no experience as such, but I think the V6 is 5-10mpg worse in every situation.

from whatcar (combined cycle) :

2.8 V6 190bhp - 28.5

2.5 V6 160bhp - 35.8

1.9 130bhp - 49.6

Thats a far cry from 5-10mpg difference lol.

However, who in their right mind would buy the 2.5 V6 when a £600 rolling road remap can give a 1.9 TDI PD 160bhp and 50mpg!

It'd be bleedin mad to surrender that extra 15mpg if you wanted a superb with 160bhp

My dad has an a4 avant with the 2.8 V6, this is a great engine, and we reguarly get mpg of 45-50 (and i once managed 61mpg!!) out of it. My mum recons that it can be more economical than her 140 2.0l A3 quattro.

The engine in the A4 is very smooth, but takes a bit of getting used to, below about 1500 rpm not much happens, but once past that it pulls very strongly. The sound is awsome, even from outside people think its a petrol.

I personally would most probably buy the V6 out of the 2 cars if it were my money.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought VAG diesels were 1.9, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 etc. I have never seen a 2.8 diesel in the lineup...theres a 2.8 petrol?

The A4's seem to have only ever gone to the 2.5tdi's though.

I get an average of 39MPG from my 2.5 V6 TDI and can fill it up for

Yes it is a 2.8 petrol

I tend to get 480- 530 miles from a full tank, depending whther it is just general trundling around, or a few good runs mixed in.

Being a Tiptronic, the ecomony is less than a manual PD130.

i'd rather have the 2.5 myself as you can have the same power+warranty like said above but surely it will be smoother and quieter than the PD130?
