Hello from deepest Devon. Found this great site while searching for info on Skodas and discovered not just a wealth of info but also people with similar experiences to mine with their cars.

I bought a cheap second-hand Skoda 130 Rapid fifteen years ago.I taught my son to drive with it and we both have happy memories of its Porsche-like handling even if the build quality was rubbish .

Fast forward to last year and I had to buy my own car after 30+ years of company vehicles. I had driven three excellent Audi A4 diesel Avants (110,130,140 bhp) in succession and rather boringly thought I would like another. However I didn't like their cost,new or nearly-new. Started looking at other cheaper options (Passat,Avensis) but kept thinking about an Octavia. Finally ,having looked at new, I bought an 8 month old Octavia Ambiente Estate 2.0TDI last October with 14000 miles on the clock from Motorpoint at what I thought an excellent price.The car had unmarked bodywork and little sign of wear inside. The only disappointment was the steel wheels but they have now been replaced with nearly-new 15" alloys and Michelin tyres from eBay.I was and am delighted. And how does it compare with an Audi at nearly twice the price? Well although virtually the same size it is roomier inside and in the boot. It drives,rides and handles better (transverse engine?) and naturally returns a similar 48mpg. Of course the trim materials are not so plush and the goody count is down a little but the actual fit and finish is just as good.I believe the body of both are fully galvanised so body and mechanicals should last as well.

Downsides? Road noise (no improvement after tyre and wheel change) and misting up very readily would be my only gripes.

Overall a very satisfied customer!

Re misting up, If you dont normally use the aircon thats probably the problem, If you do is it actually working properly

I recently got my Octy back from a major front end rebuild (the wife was driving) & they didnt recharge the aircon & the misting up was terrible, much worse if the climate is set on recirculation

Anyway, glad you like the car, it should give you many years of satisfying motoring
