Oil for Mk2 Oct 4x4

Featured Replies

The warning light has just come on indicating that my oil level is low.

The handbooks states I need VW 505 00, however, in the garage I have some Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel oil. Is this any good for my Octy?

Trial and error, a little at a time, on level ground, with the engine cold, leaving 10 mins or so between each "topping up" before reading the level on the dipstick if poss.

4.5 litres

4.5 litres

I would advise against putting another 4.5l in, unless you want the engine to run off its own oil :D

The safe option is as I posted above ;)

:iagree:

i meant from empty......

Pour in a pint first (about 500ml) then let it settle and do it slowly from there.

If you look in the manual it will tell you what the amount of oil from min on the dipstick to max is, and then you can put half of that in, then slowly top up the rest.

HTH

from the min to the max marks, it is noramlly 1 litre

I agree it normally is, hence the throw a pint in then top it up in shots from that :)

As long as ure not on 20k service intervals the 5w40 will be more than OK

dont worry
