GPS Reciever cable feed help

Featured Replies

Just bought a GPS receiver to plug into a PDA for my Fabia vRS. Now the receiver is about the size of a 50p and the cable going to the receiver is about 3

My GPS receiver sits in the far left corner of the dash near the windscreen. The cable goes down the side of the glovecompartment, then behind the glovecompartment and then into the back of my HU. If you remove the glovecompartment you should be able to route it through the gearbox tunnel (I've done this with a thick powercable at one point, search the ICE forum for some pictures).

Thank you Q, I will have a look and good thinking about the location for the cable.

Aha!

To quote "Been there, done that" :D

Q's right, the best thing I found for a semi-permanent fit it to stick it at the front left of the dash, just below the tax disc.

If you open the passenger door, the "D" shaped "end" comes off, allowing you to feed the cable down behind the glove box.

You have to take the D shape end cap off before removing the glove box (small torx screwdriver needed). That will then allow you to feed the cable through behind the glove box and down to the centre channel by the gearbox. You should be able to tuck it in between the plastic mould bit and the floor carpet trim.

I have the tomtom wired pda version of it and I stuck my cradle to the left of the steering wheel using the vent clip-on adaptor.

I'll try and take some photos if you want.

Here are a few pics (in my gallery)

To feed the cable, open the glovebox, then remove the cover on the end. It's just held in by some springy type tight fit clips.

This allows you then to remove the glovebox and have better access. Be careful if you do because the two cables for the glovebox light are quite short and I suppose you could rip off the connector if you're not careful. On my car, there's a second wiring loom for the passenger airbag de-activation switch.

Also, there's the rubber tubing for the air con, but that's resisted my abuse so far ;)

If you want to feed the cable down the centre tunnel past the gear box to the cig lighter, your best bet is to pass the cable round the plastic cover furthest to the front. It's a little loose on my car, so cable should tuck nicely in. I haven't done this on my car 'cos the cable goes to the air vent on the centre dashboard, but mine isn't finished - still needs tidying up ;)

This is the cover I'm on about:

There. First use of the gallery :)

Now that's what I call service. Cheers TFBOY.

I've also got the TomTom setup (with a Dell Axim X5 400Mhz). I have the brodit mount over the hazard flasher, and I just use the coiled power cord (at the moment).

I purchased an extension cable for the GPS mouse and run the cable under the trim all the way to the rear of the car. The GPS mouse sits under the parcel shelf and holds itself in place magnetically on part of the bodywork near to the cenre brake light.

The GPS mouse is completely hidden (so some pikey doesn't take a fancy to it) and if I need to get it out, I can remove it in seconds, leaving the extension cable in place.

It may not be the best solution for you hatchback owners, but in my Superb, it works a treat.
