I dont knwo if this warrants a new thread so Mods please move this to where you see fit.

I had posted this earlier on another thread (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/maintenance-performance/fabia-problems/5871/#post816522) but got no response so figured it might well be in the wrong place.

Hence I also appologise for the double post.

I have an Octavia vRS (Oct 2004), a few days back the airbag light came on. There was no accident. I had driven it in the morning to work and later the same morning when I started it the airbag light came on.

The car has never been in an accident but on 26-7-2005 the vechile had been in a massive flood in Bombay and the airbag module (VW51) had been replaced by Skoda. They charged me an equivalent of USD 500 for this module (not including labour).

Here are the results of an auto scan using VAG- COM.

"00589 - Airbag Igniter 1: Passenger Side (N131)

32-00 - Resistance too High"

My dealer says that I would have to get a new module again. They offer only a

If they say it needs a new module then fair enough.

But it could be a few other things with tha fault, but im guessing they have done the diagnosis and thats what it led to.

i just noticed that my last post was not complete.

I meant to say that the dealer only offers a 6 month warranty on skoda parts and that means that I would have to pay for a new sensor although the one they put the last time is only 16 months old.

What does this sensor cost in the UK? (the dealer is asking for another USD500 for a new sensor) and cant we install it ourselves?

They can be fitted DIY but need to be coded correctly to work.

Is it the airbag controller (ie ECU) which you need to replace? The UK price from JHM Butt and Co is

well I got me a new sensor and fit it for about 200 pounds.

the fault is fixed. I dont know where the sensor was located. A local garage did the work and gave me the old sensor as proof.
