Coil pack Query

Featured Replies

Floored my Octy on leaving work last night and I thought 'ooeer that doesn't sound too good.'...lumpy, diesel sounding and a vibrating pedal.

Engine management light came on.

Limped home and got out the laptop and VAGCOM said 'random misfire'.

Did my research and bought 2 coilpacks(?) from VW (

You did things in the right order in correcting the fault before clearing the fault code. This is what the ignition wiring looked like when my car was 2 years old. It looks in much the same condition now, with no bare wires visible.

Wahhay! A reply!

Thanks Denis

Skoda confirmed today that my car is 3 months out of warranty and they would've replaced the coilpacks as a 'gesture of goodwill' if it was in warranty. hmmm

Found that in the US some MKIV Golfs had similar wiring to me which was also replaced under warranty. Also, their 1.8Ts seem to have the wiring as a 'sub harness' (1J0971658L), I don't think Skoda separated off from the main loom.

Looks like I'll have to get some PVC heat shrink cables and patch it up.

There's an Audi part (Foil bag.), to cover up the wires too.

Thanks again
